In Dr. Ian Brodie's capacity as a Senior Advisor at New West, he assists clients with national leadership in public affairs, government relations, and strategic advisory services.
Dr. Brodie is a professor of political science at the University of Calgary and a prominent voice in Canadian public affairs. Following his tenure as Executive Director of the Conservative Party of Canada, Brodie served as Chief of Staff to Stephen Harper from 2005-2008, first as Leader of the Opposition and then as Prime Minister. After leaving government, he held roles as a strategic adviser at the Inter-American Development Bank and as a Visiting Fellow at the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada.
He currently serves as Director of Studies at the Canadian Global Affairs Institute and is a fellow at the Centre for Military, Strategic and Security Studies. Brodie is the author of At the Centre of Government (2018) and Friends of the Court: The Privileging of Interest Group Litigants in Canada (2001). He holds degrees from the University of Calgary and McGill University.
